The kids are watching something on the lounge-room TV, you're on the laptop in the kitchen, and the household media library, old films, family videos, the music collection, is in a folder on the USB drive plugged into Shield. No streaming subscription decides what you're allowed to play tonight. No vendor cloud sees what your household watches. The TV just shows it.

Different rules for each person. SafeSearch per device, app blocking per device, and school-night app schedules — the kids' devices locked down, yours untouched. TikTok off on one phone stays off: the Shield closes the app's main route and its backup routes.
File sharing across the household (SMB)
A simple network share that any laptop, phone or TV on your network can reach, on a USB drive you supply. Documents, photos, projects, kept on the property.
A media library on your TVs (Jellyfin, DLNA)
Stream your own films, videos and music to compatible TVs and devices around the house, without an account or a cloud catalogue. If your TV speaks DLNA, it sees your library on the network — no apps to install, no logins to keep alive.
Travel Wi-Fi over a cable
Plug Edge into the accommodation's router and your own filtered Wi-Fi appears — same rules as home. Joining hotel Wi-Fi without a cable is Shield Vault.
Shield plays files in the format they're already in — it doesn't convert video — so your TV or player needs to support the file. Several very large 4K files at once may play on fewer screens. See the FAQ for guidance.
